What Makes Counterstrike Source Servers So Enjoyable For Gamers

The original CS was popular for a very long time before CSS servers came along. Most switched to CS Source by investing in better PC's, but many stuck with the original Counterstrike.

Counterstrike game servers offer fast paced gameplay, or for the more astute a tactical shoot out. Different maps are offered to match each gameplay. You can be up against as little as four, or as many as 32 opponents, so you have to adapt your gaming accordingly. Clans enjoy playing either 5 v 5 or 7 v 7 but smaller or larger teams have been known. The standard game has two common map types either demolition or hostage rescue maps with the terrorists and counter terrorists playing their relevant role.

Like with the COD4 server The game was made popular for the fact that you could put so many different plug-ins and add-ons to your server to allow you to make things different and unique. Many brilliant modes such as gungame and zombie are available. The admin tools made available make admin on the server an easy life. For anything but the more complicated functions, RCON is ideal.

Like with mods, the game has been full of custom maps. Some maps are mod specific, however most will operate on all types of games. The original game types - bomb and hostage are still catered for. This isn't surprising, since these gametypes are still the most popular.

The game employs weapons from different armies from all round the world. The real life weapons are emulated in terms of recoil and power. There has always been an argument about certain weapons within the game and how good they are.

The game has always been easy to run on dedicated servers and many people who wish run multiple servers choose this option out of ease and cost as it is cheaper to rent a dedicated server to run 6 or 7 server than rent them individually. It also allows better control as you are able to edit your own start line and thus you can change player slots and the start map.

As well as being able to communicate in game by text, you can also use the voice-powered communication tool. The in-game voice can be good for quick communication but lacks any quality. Hardcore gamers generally opt for a dedicated voice server such as Ventrilo or Teamspeak 3. A dedicated voice server offers admin, privacy and control.
