WoW Alchemy is helpful to all classes of characters. You can offer buff (buff is a gift to one of your allies to improve their skills or resistance in some way) and of course healing potions to help your allies heal. WoW Guide recommends you seek further information in this area.
If you wish to create mana potions the spell casting classes will be most happy to take them off you. You can trade or give your potions to other players and of course create potions for yourself.
Transmutation by Alchemists is a way to convert raw material. To do this you need a Philosophers Stone which you make yourself. Transmuting can only be done once, with a wait of anything from 24hours to 4 days before you can transmute again. Various transmutes are learned from formulas that you purchase from trainers, obtain as reputation rewards or find as drops from monsters.
Enchanting could be a second choice to Herbalism though this is not generally as good unless you want a one stop item or buff shop.
